Circle of Life

Years ago, INN developed the 'Circle of Life' diagram; a fantastic tool to measure your own success in tracking the status of your old vs. your new lifestyle. This can serve you well by occasionally assessing yourself using this so-called 'spider web' chart, taking your 'temperature' and then creating an action plan for yourself.

The diagram above covers the following items:

1. Drink more water (preferably fresh, pure and without any contamination; no water from plastic bottles);

2. Practice cooking your own meal at home (preferably with fresh, organically grown ingredients);

3. Look for an increase in % whole grains (such as brown rice, oatmeal, whole wheat bread, etc.);

4. Look for % increase in sweet vegetables (corn, carrots, onions, beets, winter squash and sweet potatoes, etc.);

5. Look for an increase in % green leafy vegetables (kale, spinach, regular cabbage, beets, grains, watercress, lettuce, etc.);

Mental Well-Being

What does mental well-being mean? We can use this term to express our feelings or how well we deal with emotions in everyday life, but also what feels good at a specific moment.

Good mental well-being really doesn't mean that you always have to be happy or that you are never negatively affected by experiences.

As a species, we differ from other mammals because we are equipped with reason, consciousness and the ability to think and plan ahead. That is not only a precious gift, but also our greatest pitfall. Think about how much energy we expend every day on constant mental ruminations, including the resulting worry and stress?

Rock & Roll

To paraphrase Ian Dury and the Blockheads; when you are young and still in the 'sex and drugs and rock'n roll' phase, you think you are invincible.

But then, as you grow older and hopefully a little wiser, you begin to realize that your body and mind are sacred, just like in a temple; to be clean and pristine so that your mind can wander freely. You want to be able to enjoy all those years of your life in good health; both physically and mentally.
